Bathroom Pipes Maintenance Manual

Bathroom Pipes Maintenance Manual post image

As a homeowner, it is your obligation to keep your house in an admirable condition.

One of the most important steps when it comes to this is maintaining your bathroom pipes. Apart from good will to do so, this also requires a no small amount of dosage and vigilance.

The more often you take care of your pipes, the less maintenance they will require. As simple as that. With this in mind, here are some of the things you need to know in order to maintain your bathroom pipes the right way.

Unclogging your bathroom pipes

There are so many ways to unclog your pipes, but while some require difficult and dirty work others dictate that you should buy an expensive unclogging solution to help you out. Luckily, there is a third way out but it requires some resourcefulness and a lot of your time. Namely, if you are to frequently unclog your bathroom pipes, you won’t need anything strong.

In fact a simple solution containing 1⁄4 cup of ordinary white vinegar and one tablespoon of salt will do the trick, in the end you can even add a bit of baking soda to the mix. After letting it all settle down for an hour simply wash it all down with hot water and there you have it. Doing this once a week (or even every two weeks) is not much work but can ensure that your pipes are never in danger of clogging.

Taking care of kitchen sink and garbage disposal

Now, kitchen sink can be quite problematic. Namely, there are so many greasy substances getting poured down the drains as well as different textures that are just perfect clogging material. This is why, you need to be extra careful. First of all, prevention is a job half done so make sure to be careful about what you wash down in the kitchen.

Furthermore, you can always go for the old trusted method of pouring a bit of bleach down the sink every now and then and letting it do its magic overnight. In the morning, just wash it down as you did in the bathroom and your job is done. As for the garbage disposal things are usually a bit more complex and require even unorthodox measures as using citrus pelts to eliminate the odors.

Hot and cold

Both extremely hot and extremely cold water have its advantages and disadvantages when it comes to pipe maintenance. Knowing how (and when) to use them properly might be of key significance. For starters, hot water can help melt away your light grease deposits so letting it flow for few seconds every now and then might be a good idea.

On the other hand, do not use hot water when washing down your plates or disposing of things in your sink. At moments like these, cold water is your greatest ally since it doesn’t allow oils and grease to change from solid state, making them just slide through the pipes. All in all, knowing just these few simple temperature-related tricks can make all the difference.

Doing yourself a huge favor

All of the aforementioned, although quite simple and straightforward may seem as a lot of effort to some. Because of this, they often ask the same question over and over again- why is all of this necessary. After consulting blocked drains experts from Sydney one thing becomes clear and that is: unblocking drains on a regular basis prevents unpleasant smells and noise from the pipes. These two things alone are more than enough reason to keep up with your maintenance efforts.

Failure or unwillingness to do a bit of work on the pipes every now and then, will in time either result in a pricy plumber intervention, or a complicated cleaning process; which will require opening and scrubbing separate parts of your pipes.

The smell of this task alone will help you never doubt this gradual and simple maintenance process again. However, if you play your cards right and be smart about it, it may never even come to that.
