5 Ways to Create More Space in Your Home

5 Ways to Create More Space in Your Home post image

We’re all looking to create more space in our home. Here are 5 great ways you can do just that today!

#1 Have a Clear Out

This first step is an easy one, just have a big clear out. There’s no point in using up precious storage space on things that you don’t even want! You should make having a clear out a regular thing. You should do it at least once a year.

Once you’ve decided what you do and don’t want, you can decide what to do with it.

You could sell some of it at a garage sale or using online auction sites. Then the rest can either be recycled or thrown away.

#2 Store Vertically

People often forget the storage possibilities that would be created if they stored their stuff vertically. It’s an especially good idea to store vertically rather than horizontally if you have a tall building with high ceilings to take advantage of.

Use high storage units if you can but be careful if you do decide to do this. You’ll have to think carefully about how you’re storing items. Make sure the heaviest stuff is closest to the floor, and the lighter things go on top.

#3 Build an Extension

If you’re really running out of space though, you might need a whole new part of the house to store things in. This is when building an extension can be a great idea. An extension gives you the space to spread out and store your possessions over a wider area.

It will be a big project and could cost a lot of money, but it might be the best investment you ever make in your home! Before you go ahead with the work though, plan carefully and find good contractors. You can use a site like ContractorHomePros.com to find the best.

#4 Store in the Attic

When you’re trying to make the most of the space you have, you can’t afford to neglect your attic space. It’s a big open space, full of possibilities. If your downstairs space is being filled up with junk, move it all up to the attic.

Put all that junk in heavy duty boxes and make the most of every inch of free attic space you have. But make sure your attic can take the weight before you go ahead. And label all your boxes before you store them. It’ll save you hassle later!

#5 Use an Open Plan Design

Open plans spaces don’t have to be luxuries that you can’t afford. Simply knocking down connecting walls that don’t need to be there can make your home a lot more spacious. Get a contractor in to do the wall dismantling if you’re not confident enough to do it yourself.

Then, when the work is all done, you can think about how to use all that open space. The whole area will feel much more relaxed and comfortable to spend time in. You certainly won’t miss those confined, claustrophobic rooms!

Hopefully, these ideas have given you some inspiration.

If you want something done, do it yourself; other wise it’ll never get done. Learn to do it if you don’t know and never despair until you finish what has to be done.
