Summer is on its way, and we can’t wait to get busy with some DIY projects and chores. As the excellent weather sets in, it is time to start making the most of your home.

You should not wait until it is warm to undertake a few projects; you can start right now and see how you can improve your home.

If you have a spare few hours, there are plenty of ways in which you can spruce up your house. Here are some simple things you can do that will make all the difference.

Clean and revamp your gutters

If your gutters have dirt and leaves in them, it is time to clean them out. Nobody enjoys cleaning out their gutters. The problem is that if you have not done this chore in a while, it will be worse than you expect. Make sure that you have some rubber gloves on when you clean the area. You can use a gutter protection shield to make sure that the pipes don’t clog up again anytime soon. That should keep the leaves and rubbish out of your gutters.

DIY window shutters

For a beautiful, summer vibe, every home could look great with some window shutters. You can buy wooden shutters from a local DIY store or even make some yourself. The first thing you need to do is take the measurements of all your windows. Once you have the right sizes for your windows, you can get to work. You will need to fix the shutters to your external walls using a drill. You should mark out where you want the screws to go before you get to work. If you want to make things extra special, you can paint the shutters a bright color.

Clean the siding of your home

Most contemporary homes now have vinyl siding on their exterior walls. If you have material covering your walls, you need to ensure that you keep it clean. If you let the walls go to ruin, you will have to replace your siding before long. That means that you could waste thousands because of your laziness. You can use a hose to clean off the siding. You should scrub the area using a bleach-based cleaning product (again, make sure you wear gloves). Next, you should use a power jet of water to clean the entire area.

Fix any minor holes

If there are any minor holes in your walls, now is the time to fix them. You can get a filler solution online or from a store. Make sure that you get the right size gun for the filler you buy. All you need to do is use the filler to cover up the holes. You should use a regular sponge to clean the area to make sure that it is smooth. You might have to repaint your walls to ensure that nobody sees the repair. It is best to do this chore now so that your home is cozy for the summer.

Give your door a gloss finish

If you feel as though the exterior of your home looks dull, now is the time to improve it. This project will take you an hour but could make a massive difference to the way your home looks. You will need to get some weatherproof gloss paint from a store before you begin. Sand down the front of your door with some sandpaper – the surface should be smooth before you start painting. Next, you can use the gloss paint to decorate the door. Leave the wood to dry for at least half a day.

If you have a passion for DIY, there are millions of fantastic things for your home. Try these simple projects first so that your home looks incredible this summer.
