Have you ever looked around your home and thought ‘it just isn’t right’? For most homeowners, me included, there comes a time when their current property isn’t enough. Living in a makeshift property is designed for one, bigger goal: as a stepping stone to your dream home.
Thankfully, I can sit back and relax. After years of trying, I finally have the home that I dreamed of as a child. At least, it is the home that I want for now.
I never know when I am going to change my mind and want something new!
Still, there are lots of people who haven’t fulfilled their dream and are desperate to do so. To help you out, I have jotted down a few tips from my experience.
I hope they help.
Get The Realtor On Your Side
The first step is to find the right property. Now, you are never going to be able to do that without a quality estate agent. The dynamic between realtors and their clients is a weird one because, as buyers, we tend not to trust their advice. We think they are trying to sell us any house so that they can get their commission. As a result, the relationship is strained. I found that making the extra effort to involve my realtor as a trusted source of information was a massive bonus. With them on my side, I had an expert whose brain I could pick for invaluable advice.
Find A Good Realtor
However, there are estate agents who will sell you down the river for their commission. I was lucky that I found someone that I could trust. But, for some buyers, that isn’t the case. Always research before you go with a particular realtor. A good way to sort the wheat from the chaff is to check out former clients’ reviews. They are an unbiased source of info that should give you an insight into the realtor’s abilities.
Get Physical Evidence
Back to the property and you always want evidence of this, too. Viewing a property is a good place to start, but you can miss certain factors. With regards to your dream home, everything needs to be perfect, which is why you need to take some personal photos. Your photos are much better to examine than the glossy shots by the estate agent, and you can take your time scrutinising every little detail.
Have A Makeover
The property is signed for, and you have the keys. But, your work isn’t over yet, not by a long shot! Properties often come as bare shells, like a painter’s blank canvas. Just like a painter, it is your job to create your masterpiece. Turning a house into a home takes a lot of time and effort, but it is necessary. Start small by painting the walls, and only take on one room at a time. Before you know it, your home will be completely transformed.
Now that everything is done, your dream home is finally a reality. All you have to do next is maintain that standard.
After all, no one’s dream home is a mess of scattered clothes and dirty dishes!
If you want something done, do it yourself; other wise it’ll never get done. Learn to do it if you don’t know and never despair until you finish what has to be done.
