There are few things in life as satisfying as fixing a problem at home. The ability to whip out the toolbox and make a small repair brings a sense of achievement.
The same is true for little DIY projects. Even something as small as hanging a picture frame or building a shelf will give you a sense of pride.
With that in mind, you should be able to do this at the drop of a hat. That means keeping the essentials close by. Here are the five things that every DIY lover should own.
#1 Tool Box
The first, and most obvious choice is the tool box. A great tool box is a magnificent thing. It takes time to fill it full of the best tools so build them up over the years. Avoid the temptation to buy lots of cheap tools all at once. Invest in quality tools one at a time. Hammers, screwdrivers and a wrench are at the heart of your kit here. However, we like to keep some nails, spare fuses and a variety of pliers, wrenches and knives in ours.
No garden is complete without a shed. It is the essential place for your garden tools and any larger household DIY tools. It is a little cave to escape to and keep the dirty, cumbersome tools out of the house. You may want to set up a little workshop inside it to keep yourself occupied and practice some woodwork.
The neat freaks among us will like to have all their DIY bits and bobs in specific storage areas. The ideal thing here is specific cupboards, drawers or even industrial cabinets. Try to keep them out of the way in the garage or the shed. Though smaller storage will work in a kitchen or utility room. Our pro tip here is to itemise storage into small compartments for different sized nails, screws and bolts.
#4 Tape Measure and level
You may have all the best tools for the job, but without these two, you’ll be left with wonky projects. Even something as simple as hanging a picture requires precise measurements. You also need to ensure it’s straight from every level. Keep these simple tools close to hand and you’ll always be prepared. Actually, keep two of each in separate places. These small tools have a tendency to go missing!
#5 Electric Drill
The electric drill is a vital tool in any DIY lover’s arsenal. You just never know when it might come in useful. Most DIY projects will require this tool whether it’s fitting a shelf or altering existing features. It’s also a good idea to carry a range of drill sizes. Varying projects will require different size drill ends.
Now that you have the tools for the job, you’re ready to take on just about any home DIY project. It’s always best to be prepared for any eventuality in the home. Whether it’s minor repairs and fixes to the bigger jobs, you have everything you need. Good luck!
If you want something done, do it yourself; other wise it’ll never get done. Learn to do it if you don’t know and never despair until you finish what has to be done.
